History of Observation Wheel:

The Observation Wheel was located near the center of the Fair grounds and served as an excellent way for the visitors to begin their visit to the World’s Fair. Originally built for the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, it was transported to St. Louis. It carried riders to the height of 250 feet and gave them a bird’s eye view of the surrounding grounds. There were thirty-six wooden cars each of which could carry up to 60 persons for a total capacity of 2160 riders. It made four revolutions an hour, giving riders plenty of time to see the layout of the fair grounds.

Wedding and dinners were held in the spacious cars and more than 3,000,000 people enjoyed the view during the fair.

The Observation Wheel was destroyed after the fair because all attempts to sell or relocate the wheel failed.
