History of Palace of Art:

The Palace of Art was built of brick and limestone because of the need for a fireproof space to house the many thousands of valuable works of art on display. This magnificent, Beaux Arts style building was designed by Cass Gilbert, a New York architect.

This was one of the two permanent buildings of the Fair and is now the St. Louis Art Museum and sits atop Art Hill in Forest Park.
