History of Busch Stadium 2006 World Series:

St. Louis Cardinals
2006 World Series Champions

Inaugural season at the New Busch Stadium

It was a perfect end to the first season of baseball to be played in the "New Stadium" in St. Louis, Missouri. After a season of ups and downs, injuries to key players, wins and loses, on October 27, 2006, in Game Five, the St. Louis Cardinals won the 2006 World Series.

In postseason play the Cards defeated the San Diego Padres and the New York Mets to earn the right to play for the 2006 World Championship.

The St. Louis Cardinals beat the Detroit Tigers 7-2 in Game 1; lost 1-3 in Game 2; won the third game 5-0; in Game 4 won 5-4; and won 4-2 in Game 5 to become the 2006 World Series Champions. This was the Cardinals tenth World Series title in seventeen tries, but the first since 1982.

Moments after the final win, fireworks filled the sky over Busch Stadium as players celebrated on the field and the "greatest fans in baseball" celebrated in the stands and streets of St. Louis.
